Getting started
What is the Career Exploration Portal (CEP)?
The CEP brings career exploration and skill development resources together in one place. Use it to explore workplaces, learn about careers and post-secondary options, and find training and community connections. Open the CEP.
Which CEP section should I start with?
Choose Explore Careers for workplace tours, career profile videos and the Career Directory. Choose Training & Certifications for SHSM Swift-Certs and workplace readiness resources. Choose Community Connections for career speakers and education or certification directories.
Do I need an account to use CEP?
Some resources require you to sign in with an eligible account. If a resource asks you to log in, use your existing CEP account. For new access, ask your educator or CEP support for the registration instructions for your school, board or program.
How can I use CEP for a career exploration activity?
Try this activity: choose a workplace tour, note three roles or tools you notice, and discuss the skills those roles use. Then explore a related career or post-secondary option. This is a suggested classroom activity; your educator decides what meets your course requirements.
Where do I go for help?
Email cep@careereducationcouncil.ca for registration, account access, resources, quizzes and certificates. School IT can help with managed devices, network restrictions and blocked videos or emails.
Accounts & registration
How do I create a CEP account?
From the CEP home page, choose Login, then Register, or open the registration page. Use the registration code supplied for your school, board or program and complete the required fields. If you have used CEP before, try your existing account first.
Where do I get my registration code?
Ask your educator, school contact or CEP support for the correct current code for your school, board or program. The code determines your registration route. Do not use a code from another school or a code intended for content contributors.
Is my registration code the same as my password?
No. Enter the school or program code in Registration Code. Create your own personal password in the password fields. Keep your personal password private.
What should I check if registration will not submit?
Complete all required fields, make both email entries match, and enter the same password twice. The form requires at least eight characters, an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a special character. Complete the displayed verification yourself and check for field errors. If unusual profile fields appear, contact support to confirm that you are using the right registration route.
What if my username or email is already in use?
You may already have a CEP account from an earlier year. Return to Login and use that account, or use Reset password. Ask support to help locate your account if needed; creating another account can make training records harder to find.
Why does my login or password reset fail?
Use your CEP username, which may differ from your email address. Check Caps Lock and extra spaces, then follow the Reset password instructions. Check junk or spam folders. If no message arrives or you cannot access the saved email address, contact CEP support; school IT can investigate blocked email.
Should I create a new account when I change schools?
Keep your existing account and ask CEP support to review your access. Tell support your previous and current school or program. Educators working across several schools should explain that arrangement so support can review the appropriate access.
Finding resources
How do I search for a workplace tour?
Open Workplace Tour Videos, enter a short phrase in Keyword, and choose Submit. Use Advanced Search to narrow results by the available filters, including sector, location, themes, pathway, resource and language. Choose Reset to start again.
What is the difference between a workplace tour and a career profile video?
Workplace tours focus on workplace environments and equipment. Career profile videos are listed separately under Explore Careers and are a useful starting point when investigating particular careers. Check each resource description to decide whether it fits your activity.
How do I find a community career speaker?
Open Community Career Speakers, search by keyword, and select See profile to learn about a professional. Review the profile for a fit with your topic. Contact CEP support for help arranging the next step; a listed profile does not guarantee availability for a particular date.
How do I explore college and university options?
Open the Post-Secondary Directory, search for an institution, and select its entry to explore the available links. Confirm current programs, admission requirements, dates and costs directly with the institution.
What is the difference between Swift-Certs and the SHSM Certifications Directory?
SHSM Swift-Certs is the CEP section for online SHSM training. The SHSM Certifications Directory helps you find training providers. Check with your educator which training or provider meets your requirement before you begin.
Can I find resources in French?
The Swift-Certs listing includes French-language training alongside English offerings. Match the title and language to the training your educator assigned. On resource pages with Advanced Search, use the Language filter where available. Contact support if the version you need is missing; translations and accessibility features vary by resource.
Training, quizzes & certificates
How do I start a Swift-Certs training?
Sign in to your own CEP account and open Training & Certifications → SHSM Swift-Certs. Find the assigned title, review its description, and select Start Learning. Look for the VIDEO, QUIZ and CERTIFICATE tabs and follow the instructions on your training.
How much class time should I allow for training?
Check the length shown on the assigned training. Allow additional time for signing in, discussion, the quiz and saving a certificate where available. The listed video length is not the total time needed to complete the activity. Preview the resource before scheduling it.
Why does the certificate say I am not ready to progress?
A training may require earlier components before the certificate becomes available. If you open CERTIFICATE before completing the earlier steps, you may see “You are not ready to progress to this component.” Return to the required video and quiz and follow the training instructions. If you believe you completed them, ask support to check your record.
What if the quiz is missing or will not submit?
Check the full training page and the QUIZ tab or link where shown. Follow any prerequisite instructions, answer required questions and check validation messages. Submit once and allow it to finish. Record the error and approximate time; ask support to check the attempt before repeatedly submitting. Avoid refreshing unfinished work.
I finished training. Where is my certificate?
Complete the required assessment and review the training’s CERTIFICATE tab or certificate instructions. Stay in the same account used for training. Check browser downloads if you selected a download. If it is still missing, send support the title, date and result or confirmation you saw so your completion record can be checked.
What if my certificate name or completion record is wrong?
Confirm you are signed in to your own account. Contact CEP support with the training title, correct name and detail that needs correction. Keep the original result or certificate for reference. Support can review the record before advising whether any work needs to be repeated.
Troubleshooting
Why does a page show No Results or missing training?
Clear search text and any filters shown, then reopen the resource from the CEP menu. Confirm you are signed in to your own account. If the list is still empty, send support the exact page, your school or program and whether classmates or colleagues have the same issue. Support may need to review your resource access.
Why can an educator see training that students cannot?
Teacher access does not prove that student accounts have the same access. Check the exact training title and have students sign in individually. Send support one affected username through your school’s approved process and an approximate count of others affected so the student access can be reviewed.
What should I do if a video is blank, silent or buffering?
Check play, player volume, device volume, muted tabs and audio output. If no quiz or form work is in progress, refresh once or try another school-approved browser. Compare with another video. If many school devices are affected, ask school IT about embedded video restrictions. Send support the title, page link and player error if it continues.
What if CEP repeatedly asks me to log in, or a link does nothing?
Record or finish unsaved work, sign out, close duplicate CEP tabs, and sign in again. Try another school-approved browser or a permitted private window. For links or downloads, check new tabs, downloads and pop-up notices. Ask school IT before changing managed settings, and report the exact page and action to CEP support if it continues.
Classroom use & support
How should I prepare before using CEP with a class?
Confirm the assigned resource and correct registration instructions, then test the link, video and available assessment before class. Allow time for account recovery and check language or accessibility needs. If individual results or certificates are required, have each learner use their own account.
Can students share a device or use my teacher account?
Students can take turns on a device, but each should sign in to their own account for individual training records. Sign out between users and confirm the active account before starting. Avoid saving passwords on shared devices. Contact support if work was completed under the wrong account.
Can I project a video or deliver training offline?
A projected video can support a class discussion, but it does not by itself create an individual completion record. Before planning a printed quiz, offline assessment or teacher-led certification, ask CEP support about the arrangements available for the specific training.
What information should I include in a support request?
Email cep@careereducationcouncil.ca with your school or program, page link, resource title, exact error, approximate time, browser and checks already tried. If several users are affected, send one combined report with an approximate count and any class deadline. Share only necessary account information through your school’s approved process. Never send passwords or reset links, and hide unrelated student details in screenshots.
Still need a hand?
Email cep@careereducationcouncil.ca with the page link, resource title and what happened. Include your school or program and any class deadline. Keep passwords and password reset links private.
